WIPS and other things

Hello friends, this is a quilt I just finished. It was inspired by two different beauties I saw on Pinterest.  You can see the first one here, and the second one here.  I couldn’t find the pattern on Sassafrass lane for the first one this time, but I could swear it used to be there. I did the polka dot binding on a whim, and now I have second thoughts about it, but oh well. I love the idea of a mountain and sky scene. This one is so basic. I might try another one in this style in the future.

Below are a couple of pictures of my works in progress.  I found a cute stack of 5″ pre-cuts that I’m making into a small quilt with blue for the negative space. Here you can see me chain stitching away …IMG_7291
And I am so excited to have put this Christmas quilt together at last. I don’t know how many years it has been since our Quilt Guild did this block exchange. We each made 12 of the same blocks, a 12×12 & a 6×12 or two 6×6’s.  We did it in gemtones, and I loved how it turned out. It is very unusual in that the styles are all quite different, but it reminds me of all of my quilt guild friends, so it will be a treasure for me. I plan to bind it in a solid black.  Hopefully before Christmas, haha.

To My Bernina 230 PE

Dear Bernie,

I just want you to know how much happiness you have brought into my life since we have been together. Your suave methods are not lost on me, and I am deeply grateful for your steadfast and hard-working nature. Thank you for your constant smooth tension, which never fails to relieve mine.

I notice that my daughter Grace and you have become close lately, but I hope you will remember that we were friends first, so I have loved you longer.

Sometimes I really push your buttons, but you are always good to me. I look forward to many more happy hours with you.

Happy Anniversary!

Love, Jen

Quick Half Square Rectangle Quilt

I made this quilt for my sister for Christmas. I was shopping for kid cousin Christmas presents on Black Friday, and I saw this cute fat quarter pack, and it reminded me of her.  I had already got her something else for Christmas, so there was no pressure that it had to be done in time.

Still, when I got it home it kept calling me from the sewing room. “I’m here! Come and play with me, please.” So I did. I didn’t make a great plan, so it came out a little disorganized, but my sister is pregnant with her fourth baby. I’m confident that at this point she can handle a bit of disorder.

This may have been one of the fastest quilts I’ve ever finished. I had a little break from work, and it was complete in a week. I think I should do that more often, because it was so satisfying!

Christmas Gift Idea

1D7478AE-936D-408D-8254-6FC278592F86

I made this oversized hot pad tonight. I started it last year, and paper pieced the star from a pattern at the awesome Wombat Quilts.  A couple of things I wanted to note:

1. I have given quite a few oversized hot pads as Christmas gifts, and they have generally been very well received. I like to give them because I am hard on hot pads, because I love to cook. This means I could probably get a new hot pad every year and not complain. These are the kind of gift I love to give because they are useful and beautiful at the same time.

2. I made the binding on the bias. I typically don’t do bias binding unless I am going around curves, and I usually cut binding 2 1/4” prior to ironing it. I cut this binding the same, and later wished I had cut it 2 1/2, because it was a pretty tight squeeze getting that wrapped around all the layers of batting in that hot pad (I put 3 layers of scrapped 80/20 I had lying around.)

I hope the recipient likes it, but I can’t tell who it is until after Christmas.

Santa’s Workshop Show n Tell

Santa Quilt-1
I am so excited to have finished this quilt. I have been working on it for quite a few years. I can’t even remember how many at this point. I instantly fell in love with these panels when I went to my local quilt shop and bought the big one and the little squares.

I decided to make it a window quilt after seeing some cute ones done with panels at quilt guild. It’s a long story, and I posted a video about it on my youtube channel, but here are a couple of photos of the things that kept me stumped. It’s funny how it turned out that just a few simple fill in blocks finished it up nicely.

I got the whole quilt finished and bound, and then realized that I hadn’t quilted in one tree, and I had quilted the other one, so I had to re-load it on my long arm  machine for five little triangles. Oh well, it was completely worth it. I’m so happy it’s complete. Merry Christmas!
